Policemen of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company under Supt. Wlliam Gadayan and personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources raided an illegal logging site in Barangay Lapakan the other day.

Gadayan disclosed that a total of 30 flitches of mahogany and gemelina-cut trees with dimensions of 10x10 and 12x12 were seized during the raid.

The perpetrators of the Illegal logging eluded arrest as they scampered in different directions upon the arrival of the lawmen.

The seized illegally-cut lumber were brought to the DENR office for proper disposition.

The DENR personnel and the police swooped down on the site in Barangay Lapakan after receiving a  report from some residents on the ongoing illegal logging activities in the area.

The ZCPSC and the DENR have raided several illegal logging sites and arrested the perpetrators in the past months. — Dan Toribio Jr.
