As expected, District 1 Cong. Beng Climaco is the runaway winner in the mayoralty race in Monday’s polls with an unprecedented winning margin in the city’s political history.

But the ever humble Cong. Climaco as of noontime yesterday would not want to issue any statement regarding her resounding victory until she is proclaimed the official winner in the race.

“Ta rindi kita gracias con el maga vivientes for their overwhelming support and we hope and pray that this will continue on  para el bien del di aton Ciudad, although no kiere pa gayot kita hace official statement cay ta espera pa gayot kita el official proclamation and that of the other Team PNoy candidates,” Climaco replied when pressed to comment on her phenomenal win in Monday’s mid-term elections.

Since the start of the counting of the ballots Monday night, Climaco’s votes continuously surged with almost a hundred thousand votes difference to her closest rival Cong. Erbie Fabian, with over 60% of the election returns canvassed as of noontime yesterday.

“We would like to assure the people of Zamboanga that even up to this very moment, our congressional office is constantly performing its role in providing service to the residents”, the lady solon stated.

As for Cong. Fabian, who congratulated her for being the “mayor-elect”, Cong. Climaco extends her hands of reconciliation. “Como siempre ta esta el amistad y amigo contodo, that after all we have fought our level best and we have fought a good fight and we entrust our beloved City to the hands of God and the people whom we are serving and thankful for”.

She stressed that friendship between and among the political rivals should remain after the elections. “After May 13 we go back to our normal lives, go back to our duties in whatever capacity and as always amistad siempre ta reina”.

When asked what she thinks is her edge over the other mayoralty aspirants in Monday’s elections, Climaco replied “services to the people, that from the very start we realized that public service entails sincere and genuine service to the people and this we have provided accordingly through the funds of Congress”.

She also stressed that scholarships, medical assistance and social services were given to the residents and legislation was also part of the priority. “Un poco pa lang este ya dale  kita, so expect more”.

Climaco’s resounding victory is a show of approval of her performance and accomplishments during her 6-year stint in the 1st congressional district where she rolled out tremendous projects and programs that impact the lives of the people in the west coast as well as those residing in the east coast.

On the other hand, Cong. Climaco expressed gratitude to Divine intervention that permitted the voters to properly cast their votes.

But while the process was described as generally peaceful and orderly, the lady solon noted various complaints in some areas in District 2 such as at Bbarangay Taluksangay where volunteer groups PPCRV and UF HOPE accordingly discovered some irregularities.

She hoped and prayed that the independent groups will come out in the open and expose what they have unearthed during the voting process to serve as guide to the Elections commission, as this has impact and effect on the electorate of the city. “Because we want to set a good example for our city and as candidates, if we want to qualify for a certain position, we should follow the law”.

Meanwhile, due to problems in the transmission of the election returns through the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine caused delays in the canvassing of ballots at the Sangguniang Panlungsod yesterday.

Proclamation of winners was expected late last night or anytime today. — MS
