The dexterity and competence of beauteous reelectionist Mayor Cherry Santos Akbar has given her the sustained edge over her rival Alan Ritchie Biel who ran against her for the mayoralty post in the just concluded elections in Isabela City.

Akbar was proclaimed by the Comelec Wednesday as reelected mayor and will be serving her last term. She mustered landslide votes totalling 28,775 while her reelected running mate Vice Mayor Abdulbaki Ajibun gathered 19,232 votes.

The elected members of the city council are 1. Jashim “Lannang” Tiplani — 22,212 votes 2. Jeromy Casas — 18,883 votes 3. Al-Qaid Akbar — 18,509 votes 4. Moumar Muarip — 18,014 votes 5. Maria Jennesa Tubongbanua — 17,284 votes 6. Jojie Ismael — 16,103 votes 7. Placido Jilhani — 15,594 votes 8. Abner Rodriguez — 15,200 votes 9. Taib Alejo — 15,091 votes and 10. Nida Patino Dans — 14,875 votes.

Biel has run against Akbar for the mayoralty post in the last two electons, but lost because of the mayor’s charisma and magnetism with the electorate.

“Black propaganda simply did not lure the voters to go against the charming mayor who has proven to be effective in bringing progress to Isabela City the past decades,” said a political analyst.

Isabela City is one of the many places in Basilan that has truly been developed and will continue under the helm of the lady mayor.

Akbar thanked her supporters and friends for their trust and confidence on her over the past years.

“To my supporters as well to all the losing candidates, it is about time that we once again join our hands together and rally behind my administration and make Isabela great once more,” Akbar said. — KS
