The situation in Region 9 is back to normal  after the May 13, mide-term 2013 elections which was generally peaceful and orderly.

Directorate for  Integrated  Police Operations for Western Mindanao officer Sr. Supt. Jose Bayani  L.  Gucela disclosed that after conducting visits to to the different voting precincts and police commands in the peninsula, his observation is that the region is  experiencing tranquility and the situation has returned to nomal.

Gucela said that Police  Director Elpidio Z.  De Asis Jr.,  DIPO Western Mindanao  chief, had visited the region before the election period and had directed policemen to always stay on  alert and be vigilant during the election so that the electorate can excerise their right of suffrage and  choose their candidates without  delay.

“Everything was very successful and the voters were able able to exercise their right,” Gucela said.

Gucela disclosed that there were isolated election related incidents like in the municipality of Tanduh Bas in Tawi-Tawi  wherein the incumbent mayor lost and turned desperate by firing his gun. There were also violent incidents  in Simunul, Tawi-Tawi, Tongkil  Sulu and Sumisip, Basilan, but all of these were responded by the police with immediate proper actions and solutions.

Gucela revealed that the Philippine National Police is still in full alert as the country will celebrate the 115th Independence Day on June 12.

The areas of jurisdiction of  DIPO Western Mindanao are Police Regional Office 9, PRO 12 and PRO- Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. — Allen Abastillas
