The Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday lowered the police alert level to normal, from full alert, as the heat of election fever cooled down.

PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. disclosed the downgrading of alert from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday.

However, he clarified that this will only take effect in selected regions.

PNP units in Mindanao, particularly from Regions 9 to 13, will downgrade only to heightened alert.

The DILG instructed PNP to assure midterm elections peaceful as they were ordered to go on full alert last May 6, one week before the scheduled elections.

Police are not allowed to go on leave or file leaves during the full alert status.

The PNP worked with the military to ensure the peaceful conduct of polls as they assisted voters in the polling precincts on election day.
