The rehabilitated and improved Sangguniang Panlungsod building will be inaugurated and turned over today, Monday, over a year after it was closed for repair.

Mayor Celso Lobregat will spearhead the event after the blessing ceremony to be led by Fr. Max Rodriguez at 10am today. Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde will give the opening remarks during the simple but significant event.

Costing P21.47M, the rehabilitation/ improvement work was undertaken by the Genetian Builders. Work on the project approximately took over a year since it started January 2, 2012.

The project was based on recommendations of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) and a structural engineer. The repair was mainly due to cracks suspected to be caused by structural flaws.

The work included the removal of the roof deck and the construction of a roofing system, repair of certain offices that sustained cracks specifically those at the third floor, construction of sheer walls and other improvements to ensure the building’s structural integrity.

Last May 13, the rehabilitated and improved SP building was used for the canvassing of the votes and the subsequent proclamation of winners in the local and national elections. — Sheila Covarrubias
