A businesswoman was killed while her husband was wounded in a robbery in Aurora town,  Zamboanga del Sur.

A police report disclosed that the incident took place at Purok Maabiabihon, Insagan village around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Police identified the fatality as Antonieta Sumalpong, 55. She sustained a bullet wound in the forehead.

Sumalpong’s husband, Romeo, 55, suffered head injuries and was taken to the hospital for  treatment.

Investigation showed that the victims, who were also engaged in lending business, were tending their sari-sari store when the assailants arrived and shot them.

The gunmen were believed to have carted away an undetermined amount of money since the victims’ bag which contained cash was missing.

The incident was discovered by the victims’ neighbors after one of them, Alex Tagbacaula, went to their house to borrow money, police said.

The neighbors told the police they thought what they heard earlier from the house of the Sumalpongs were firecracker explosions.

Investigators were still working on the case.
