Members of the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET) experienced the warmth of Zamboangueño hospitality during the first night of their national convention on Thursday, May 23 at the Garden Orchid Convention Center.

Mayor Celso Lobregat welcomed the approximately 150-strong delegation hailing from 47 different chapters in the country for the 18th PAMET National Mid-Year Convention, hosted this year by the Zamboanga City PAMET Chapter.

“Medical technologists are often the unsung heroes of the medical team. Patients rarely see you in action, but your role in the fight against illness and disease is just as significant and just as critical,” said Lobregat.

“There is no doubt that what you do makes an impact and it goes beyond the confines of the laboratory,” he added.

Following the formal opening ceremonies, the Mayor then led the opening of the exhibits featuring medical supplies, equipment and other laboratory technologies. Lobregat gamely dropped by the different booths, even lingering in one to have his blood glucose level taken.

With the theme “PAMET in the Countryside @ 18: Unity in Excellence, Professionalism and Commitment”, the convention called together medical technologists, medical professionals, leaders and partners to discuss the latest updates and developments in laboratory science.

A City Tour will be held on Sunday, capping the four-day national convention.

Present during the opening ceremonies were City Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos, PAMET National President Romeo Joseph Ignacio, Zamboanga City PAMET Chapter President and Mindanao Regional Director Richard Tabuniag, other national PAMET officials, regional directors and the representatives of the different PAMET chapters. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
