Just two weeks after the midterm election, Councilor and now Congresswoman-elect Lilia M. Nuno has resumed her yearly program for the indigent people in the second district by conducting free circumcision (tuli) for children in one of the communities where she got overwhelming votes.

Of the almost 200 children,  81 from the different tribes in Barangay Sta. Catalina benefitted from the free service that Nuño has rendered using her personal money.

Known as champion in the delivery of basic social and health services, Mrs. Nuno has enrolled her staff on medical trainings and seminars to carry on some of the medical services that her office is rendering to poor residents.

Today, another commendable service will be given for free to elementary pupils of Don GEMS in Sta. Catalina by way of free haircut.

As an honorary member of the Guardians Brotherhood Inc., Mrs. Nuno has tapped her Guardians brothers who are barbers to assist her in the conduct of the project.

“I have been doing this since I joined politics. I’m used to it because of my previous tasks in the PCSO as chief. I know how indigent people need this kind of services. Since you put me in much higher position, I assure you  that health services, assistance to the poor, livelihood and other programs for our fellow Zamboanguenos will be delivered regardless of religion,” Nuno said.

“I don’t own the position. But while in office, I will give my best so people can remember that once upon a time, there was a lady legislator who spent much of her time in looking into their basic needs,” she  said. —Jimmy Villaflores
