ZCFD inspects schools, dorms, boarding houses PDF Print E-mail

The Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) has activated its “Oplan Balik Eskwela” program by undertaking proactive efforts to ensure fire safety compliance of all schools, dormitories and boarding houses through the conduct of inspections in this city.

ZCFD District Fire Marshal F/Supt. Dominador F. Zabala, Jr. said the “Oplan Balik Eskwela” is an annual program of the government spearheaded by the Department of Education (DepEd) with the support of the other government agencies including the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to ensure the smooth opening of classes this School Year 2013-2014.

Zabala said the ZCFD also intensified fire safety compliance awareness campaign such as lectures, fire drills, distribution of fire safety materials and many others.

“We have also identified and issued appropriate notices to schools, universities, dormitories and boarding houses of fire safety violations after the conduct of our intensified inspections and our Bureau of Fire (BFP) Regional Office has also directed all other field offices to undertake such proactive efforts within their areas of jurisdiction,” Zabala, Jr. said.

Meanwhile, ZCFD is set to conduct today actual demonstrations and drills exercises of the two units newly-acquired fire trucks issued by the DILG and local government through Mayor Celso L. Lobregat.

The activities will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Enriquez Memorial Stadium (Baliwasan Grandstand), this city.

ZCFD District Fire Marshal Supt. Dominador F. Zabala, Jr. said the newly-acquired fire trucks released by the DILG through Mayor Lobregat will be tested as to its capabilities, worthiness and serviceability.

The testing and demonstrations of the said new fire trucks will be conducted per request of Mayor Lobregat to find out the capabilities of the pressures and the distance of the water streams and its accessories installed at the fire trucks.

“We will be testing these newly-acquired brand new fire trucks issued to our fire district also to make our personnel acquaint, using these accessories installed at the fire trucks and we are inviting the general public to come and witness the said activity starting at 8:30 in the morning onwards,” Zabala said.
