Policemen under City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo confiscated an M4 carbine rifle during a raid at a residence at Kalasahan Village, Upper Calarian yesterday afternoon.

Armed with a search warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court, operatives of the Tetuan Police Station, Sinunuc Police Station, Intelligence Section and Anti-Carnapping Unit swooped down on the house of Gracelyn Saji, wife of the late Zaldy Saji, a former policeman and recovered the M4 rifle with eight long magazines loaded with ammunition. Another empty magazine was also found in the house.

When the police entered the residential compound, they spotted Gracelyn and his son Gladimir Juaini inside a cottage located in front of the house where the high-powered rifle was discovered.

When interrogated, the mother and son denied ownership of the gun, claiming that a certain Nixon Indanan, allegedly a policeman, was the owner of the gun.

They said that Indanan left the gun in their possession and went to report for duty.

Aside from the gun and bullets, policemen also recovered a black bandolier where the magazines were stuffed.

A police report disclosed that the police applied for a search warrant from the court after learning that occupants of the said house were selling high-powered firearms.

The mother and son were placed under investigation while the seized gun and ammunition were turned over to the investigators for the filing of charges against them in court.

Two barangay officials of Calarian and some newsmen were present during the raid. – Dan Toribio Jr.
