Gunslaying continues in Zamboanga City!

After a 30-year-old scion of a prominent clan was gunned down in Rio Hondo Wednesday last week,  a policeman, also a member of an old family in this city,  was shot to death by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Tumaga Porcentro last Sunday night.

The fatality, SPO1 Rowan Lim of the Sangali Police Station, belongs to the Lim family whose members included the late Senator Roseller Lim (uncle), Police Sr. Supt. Roland Lim (brother) former councilor Rudy Lim (cousin).

SPO1 Lim sustained gunshot wounds in the body and was rushed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center where he expired while undergoing treatment.

Police investigators recovered two slugs and two spent shells of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Initial investigation disclosed that Lim was driving a motorcycle along Tumaga Porcentro heading for Guiwan around 6:30 p.m. when two men riding tandem on another (red) motorcycle chased him and the backrider opened fire at a dimly lit near a blind curve,

The gunmen sped away after shooting the policeman while helpful residents took Lim to the hospital.

City Police Director Sr. Supt. Edwin De Ocampo disclosed that men of the Sta. Maria police station are working double time to get the killers.

Netizens in the Facebook social network are indignant about the series of fatal shooting incidents in Zamboanga City. They urge the city government and the police to do something to stop the killings, to crackdown on hired killers and to strictly enforce the gun ban.

Since January of this year up to the present, more than 300 people have been killed by guns. Some of the gun attacks were carried out in broad daylight. The “scoreboard” on the killings can be seen at the downtown building of Universidad de Zamboanga whose president, Archie Eustaquio was shot dead outside his residence in Sta. Maria more than a year ago.– Dan Toribio Jr.
