The Bureau of Internal Revenue Zamboanga City District Office has collected P1,417,396,428.25 last year (2010), compared to only P 1,246,318,457.45 in 2009 or an increase of P171,077,970.80.

Zamboanga City Revenue District Officer Merlyn DV. Vicente disclosed that the collection for the month of January this year is P120,540,758.17 compared to only P108,210,210.0 in 2010.

On the “ Oplan Candado” enforcement last year, the BIR District Office issued mission order for closures to 30 establishments for non payment exactly of tax revenue to the government.

Twenty six establlishments complied with the mission order for closure. Thereafter, the four establishmenta followed suit.

Vicente appealed to taxpayers to file their income tax, business tax returns correctly and religiously so that they will not face the consequences.

The government imposes high penalties for tax evaders. The taxes they paid will be used by the government for the progress and development of the country. — Allen Abastillas
