The Philippine  Center on Transnational Crime Western Mindanao Field Office under Chief Insp. Alexander Lorenzo intercepted a Romanian who was travelling without passport on board a commercial vessel bound for Tawi-Tawi via Jolo, Sulu.

Ionescu Cornel was seen on board a vessel when PCTC personnel, operatives of the Zamboanga City Based Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force and Philippine Navy troopers conducted  an operation against human traffickers who victimized four female teenagers last June 3, 2013.

Lorenzo warned Cornel that it is dangerous for him  to  go to Jolo and Tawi-Tawi as kidnapping is rampant in the area.    But Cornel was insistent and ignored Lorenzo’s warning.

Immediately thereafter, Lorenzo contacted Ms. Sitti Rubaina-Lutian, chief of the Bureau of Immigration Zamboanga City Office and informed her about the presence of  Cornel and his travel to Jolo and Tawi-Tawi.

Lorenzo also asked for assistance from the Philippine Coast Guard Station and  ZSBATTF operatives to escort Cornel to Jolo fo his security.

Lutian informed the BI office in Jolo to intercept Cornel who was on the way to Jolo. When Cornel arrived in Jolo the following day, he was escorted again and was brought back to Zamboanga City.

Cornel was turned over to the PCTC under Lorenzo and was brought to the Criminal Investigation Detection Unit 9 for temporary custody. Cornel was later escorted to Manila by BI personnel. — Allen Abastillas
