Retirees, exemplary employees and persons who contributed to the growth and cause of the agency were honored during the DSWD’s 60th anniversary celebration at the Astoria Plaza last January 4, 2011.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 9 celebrated the agency’s 60th anniversary last January 3 – 5 through various activities anchored in this year’s theme, “Committed Social Service with Integrity”.

The celebration officially kicked off on Monday, January 3 with the Anniversary Flag-Raising Ceremony. Following that, a short motorcade was held in the Zamboanga City proper, which was joined by staff from the regional office, the centers and institutions, and those from the satellite offices.
After the motorcade, the staff proceeded back to the Field Office in Gen. Vicente Alvarez Street. There, a Duwa’a was officiated by Ustadz Idris Lim. He commended the DSWD for its selfless work in alleviating the plight of the Filipinos.

A short anniversary mass was held at the DSWD office lobby, presided by Rev. Fr. Cantico Muñoz. In the celebration, Fr. Muñoz extolled the DSWD staff for their continuous service for the poor and the vulnerable. He emphasized that working for the betterment of others, and alleviating the situation of the poor is a noble calling, and not just a profession.

Two contests for the staff were held after the mass – the extemporaneous speaking and essay writing. It was also during this day that a booth, showcasing products of beneficiaries of the Self-Employment Assistance – Kaunlaran program was opened.

On the second day, January 4, the social marketing unit unveiled a photo and memorabilia exhibit. Photos from as early as the fifties were displayed. Still, office uniforms were shown covering the different decades until the present time. The exhibit also became a mini-museum, where breast pins, old office supplies and equipment and the earliest documents and memoranda were displayed.
