Zamboanga City joins the nation in the celebration today of the 115th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence in simple but meaningful rites to be held at Plaza Rizal fronting City Hall.

The program will kick off at 8am with the flag raising ceremony to be led by Mayor Celso Lobregat and Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde with City Veterinarian Mario Ariola leading the pledge of allegiance to the flag or panunumpa sa watawat.    The Ateneo de Zamboanga University Concert Band will lead the singing of the national anthem and the Zamboanga Hermosa Hymn

The flag raising ceremony will be followed by the wreath laying rite to be participated by officials and representatives of national offices, military commands, Veterans Federation of the Philippines-ZC chapter, City Department heads, school heads, barangay officials and other sectors.

The activity will culminate with the keynote speech of Mayor Lobregat, who will speak on the significance of the Independence Day celebration to present times.

The Independence Day celebration is themed “Celebrating a legacy of Filipino Creativity, Talent and Ingenuity”.  — Sheila Covarrubias
