Benton Richard Wise, grandson of local civic leader (Soroptimist) Meding Jacinto was among 5,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional degree holders who were awarded during the annual commencement ceremony of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina last May 12, 2013.

Duke President Richard H. Brodhead presided over the ceremony in the university’s Wallace Wade football stadium, and philantrophist Melinda Gates, co-founder of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, delivered the commencement address.

Benton wise received the Benjamin N. Duke Scholar Bachelor of Arts Public Policy Studies.

Benton is the son of Mr. Gerald and Evita Wise of Marion, South Carolina. He will pursue a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the Duke Graduate School beginning July 1, 2013. He is in the Dean’s list for this summer classes.

Benton completed his study abroad with Duke in Florence.  This summer, he worked with Conservation Trust for North Carolina. ?Benton’s project focused on land trust and sucession planning issues for landowners.
