LAMITAN CITY — The newly elected officials in Lamitan City, Basilan, particularly those belonging to Team Pinoy led by Mayor-elect Rosita Uy-Furigay and husband Vice Mayor-elect Roderick Furigay took their oath yesterday at the Lamitan City Hall ground.

Five other Team Pinoy (Liberal Party) newly-elected councilors — Clarito San Juan, Rima Hassan, Mayra Kallahal, Malik Uyag and Sali Polo also joined the Furigay’s couple in swearing in their oath of office.

Basilan Presiding Judge Danilo Bucoy administered the oath in a simple ceremony as the local government unit celebrated its 2nd founding anniversary as a City yesterday.

Thousands of supporters including government employees, barangay officials, PNP and military officials, friends, relatives coming from other parts of the region and from Hawaii, USA, graced the ceremony as the newly elected mayor gave her inaugural message laden with commitment and aspiration that Lamitan will be in good shape under her administration in tandem with husband Roderick as vice mayor.

In her message, Mrs. Furigay expressed thank to the almost 15, 000 voters who gave her the mandate to lead Lamitan for the next three years.

“I will always remember and cherish the trust and confidence you have given me. I will take that as my inspiration to do what is best for you and for Lamitan City,” the lady mayor said.

She assured that Lamitan, under their watch with husband Roderick will have an active, progressive and pro-development leadership.

Mrs. Furigay has set a record as the first lady mayor in Lamitan City and even first in the history that a couple is occupying the first two top positions in the local government unit.

As she is going to assume office in July first, Mrs. Furigay will immediately convene members of the legislative branch led by husband Roderick to plan out priorities for her first 100 days in office.— BA
