Mayor Celso Lobregat yesterday spearheaded the commemoration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s 152nd birth anniversary with fitting rites participated by all sectors in the city.

Jointly organized by the City Government and the Order of the Knights of Rizal, the event kicked off with the flag raising ceremony followed by the offering of flowers, ushered into Plaza Rizal by the representatives of the different sectors and organizations.

Themed Rizalism: The Epitome of the Filipino Youth and Good Governance, Lobregat in his message encouraged this generation of Zamboangueños to “find a Rizal” in their selves.

“We are all capable of heroism; we are heroes in our own right,” said Lobregat.

Lobregat also highlighted Rizal’s patriotism and selflessness, two traits which led the hero to return to the Philippines and fight against the Spaniards.

“It is our turn – the turn of the present generation and the generations to come to do our part to confront the challenges of present time. Together let us do our share for the betterment of our country and Zamboanga City in particular,” concluded Lobregat.

Present during the ceremony were the officials and members of the Order of the Knights of Rizal led by Domingo Falcasantos, PNP-9 Director PCSupt. Juanito Vaño, 3rd Air Division Chief Commander MGen.
