Two kidnapping incidents took place in Zamboanga City and in Sulu  last Saturday.

A staff clerk of the Western Mindanao State University was seized by gunmen outside their residence at Amping Drive, Campo Islam, this city last Saturday night.

Two Filipino-Algerian sisters, both public relation officers of a group called “Tausug Citizen”,  were snatched by suspected Abu Sayyaf extremists in Barangay Liang, Patikul, Sulu.

Alrashid Rojas y Maha, 56, married, of WMSU’s Islamic Studies was forcibly taken by gunmen around 7:50 p.m.

A police report disclosed that Rojas was in their house when he received a text message asking him to come out of their residence. When he went out, four men met him and one of them wearing military uniform shouted in tausug,“amu na yan“ (that’s him). The three others surrounded and dragged him. Rojas resisted, prompting one of the gunmen to pistol whip him on the head.

When he fell unconscious, Rojas was brought to the shore approximately about 50 meters away where four other armed men aboard a white pumpboat called “Bote-Bote” were waiting.

Police said the gunmen’s seacraft with Rojas aboard sped westward.

Police, Navy and Coast Guard personnel were immediately dispatched to search for the white pumpboat.

In Sulu, Linda Abdel Bansil and Nadjoua Abdel Bansil, both workers of Tausug Citizen under Sultan Bantilan Muizudin were seized by gunmen while they were aboard a jeepney at Sitio Banuh, Liang, Patikul around 9:30 a.m.

A military report disclosed that the jeepney was stopped by the gunmen led by Ninok Sappari with seven companions after which  the two sisters were taken to an unknown place. – Dan Toribio Jr.
