Two roving merchants were shot dead by unidentified assailants in Lamitan City, Basilan yesterday.

A police report disclosed that the shooting took place in Barangay Colonia. The two merchants died on the spot.

As of press time, authorities could not identify the two victims as no identification card or any document was found in their possession.

Meanwhile, police have doubled up efforts  in the investigation of the killing of a young company associate executive who was gunned down while taking an afternoon break at a refeshment parlor along Veterans Avenue, Tumaga last Saturday afternoon.

Police sources said that land dispute is among the angles being looked at by investigators on the fatal shooting of Justine Raphael F. Wee, 22, a graduate student of Ateneo de Zamboanga University, and an associate executive of XTRM 1-11, dealer of Usana food supplement products.

Wee’s killing sparked outrage at ADZU and other parts of the city as many residents urged authorities to do something concrete to stop the killings here.

Ateneans staged a peaceful interfaith rally and candle ceremony last Monday to dramatize their displeasure over the handling of many killings in this city, and to seek justice for the death of Justine.

Netizens in facebook social network have called on all Zamboangueños to unite and pressure authorities to arrest the killers and stop further similar incidents. — With report from Richard Falcatan
