The Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) will finally have its Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, acquired through a donation from the City Government.

This, as ZCMC Chief of Hospitals Dr. Romeo Ong on Monday turned over the notice of award to the MRI supplier, Siemens Inc. in the presence of Mayor Celso Lobregat during the City Government’s flag raising ceremony.

“This is a surprise for Mayor Lobregat,” Ong said addressing City Government employees and officials attending the flag raising ceremony in front of City Hall—the last for the mayor before he turns over the leadership to incoming Mayor Beng Climaco on June 30. “Sabe yo kay last flag raising ceremony este di Mayor and I would like to thank Mayor Lobregat for the things he has done for the Zamboanga City Medical Center. We are finally awarding the MRI that the City Government gave to the ZCMC.

Last January, Lobregat and Ong formalized a memorandum of agreement formalizing the city’s donation of P70M for the purchase of an MRI machine for the use of patients at the ZCMC.

Following bidding process undertaken by the Department of Health and ZCMC, one unit of MRI machine is acquired with a contract price of P60.6M. The notice of award was presented to the head of sales of Siemens, Inc.

Lobregat for his part thanked Dr. Ong for the surprise saying it gives him a wonderful feeling. “It gives us a feeling of accomplishment that the efforts that we have done together are gaining fruits”.

With the acquisition cost of P60.6 million, the ZCMC has accrued a savings of P9 million from the funds donated by the City.

Lobregat said the savings will be used for further assistance to the ZCMC, as he instructed the City Budget Office to make the necessary arrangements with Dr. Ong following required procedures.

The mayor initiated the allocation of funds for the acquisition of the MRI machine for the ZCMC in line with the city’s commitment to help modernize the hospital and accelerate delivery of health services.

Zamboanga City patients will benefit from the project as they will be granted discounted rates.
