The Rotary Club of Zamboanga City West is known for its rich tradition, harmonious membership, great fellowship and winning ways. In fact, since its inception in 1971 the club has brought home several major district awards. It may also be recalled in the recent annual District Conference held at Bacolod City last March, the club received the Outstanding Club (Large Club Category), as well as several other District Awards, and its president, Santiago “Santi” Araneta, was awarded Most Outstanding President of District 3850. The West, as it is popularly called, is one of only six all-male clubs in the District, which covers Aklan, Capiz, Antique, Negros Occidental, Basilan, Guimaras, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga City, Misamis Occidental and Tawi-Tawi.

President Raul M. Regondola will take over a diversified club of 50 gentlemen with sterling integrity coming from different industries and professions. They meet every Tuesday at 7:30 PM in Lantaka Hotel.

Regondola is the Branch Manager of PCSO Region 9. Before serving as club president, he served as Vice President last Rotary Year. He was the club’s well-deserved recipient of the once in a lifetime award Rookie Rotarian of the Year for RY 2009-2010. Together with his officers, Regondola is expected to rise to the challenge and lead the club to greater heights.

Tonight’s guest of honor and inducting officer will be this Rotary Year’s District Governor Mark Anthony Ortiz of the Rotary Club of Roxas. The event will be a joint induction of the Rotary Club and Rotary Anns Club of Zamboanga City West. The Anns club is composed of spouses of the members of the West. Leading them this year is Incoming Ann President Aurora “Au” Wee, wife of businessman and Rotarian Alfred Wee. She is taking over a vibrant and active group of caring mothers led by Outgoing President Jeane “Gigi” Regondola, wife of Incoming Club President Raul. The 42nd joint turnover and induction ceremonies tonight will be held at Marcian Garden Hotel Convention Center at 6:00 PM.

This Rotary Year’s (2013-2014) Rotary International theme is Engage Rotary, Change Lives. The incoming Rotary Governors of the 10 districts in the Philippines formed an initiative called One Rotary Philippines. They made history by having the first ever Multi District Presidents-Elect Training Seminar (MDPETS) in Cebu last February 15-17, where all club presidents-elect of the 10 districts in the country gathered together for one training. With the promise at hand, they have labeled themselves First Class Leaders. The 1st Philippine Joint District Conference is scheduled to be in Manila on April 10 to 12, 2014.

Rotary has been known for its motto Service Above Self. Its purpose is to do service through fellowship. One of the main goals of Rotary is to eradicate Polio. As of last year, the world is 99.9% Polio Free. Other avenues of Rotary Service include disease prevention, peace, water, literacy, health and hunger.

Members of Rotary are individuals of good morals and standing in the community who are in business and/or professionals.

The West is one of six clubs in Zamboanga City and one of 52 clubs in District 3850.
