District 2 Councilor Roel “Elong” Natividad has started to go on a wider scale, in terms of campaigning against criminalities as well as looking at certain factors to serve as crime deterrence in Zamboanga City.

Natividad, who formally assumed as chairman of both peace and order and anti-illegal drugs committees at the city council last July 3 has been going around day and night alongside with newly-seated Mayor Beng Climaco, checking on the city’s peace and order condition.

“I am also under orders fromMayor Beng to see to it that authorities especially beat policemen are doing their job well, so that criminals will not have easy access in doing their nefarious activities,” Natividad said.

He said that there are even times, wherein he and Mayor Climaco would chance upon some of the beat cops, texting, or chatting with fellow colleagues while on duty.

“Si ta cuhi kame con estos maga lousy pulis, ensigidas canila ta ordena si Mayor Beng para reporta ala mañana na city hall, donde canila ta man lecture el alcaldeza,” Natividad said.

Natividad, is also contemplating on revisiting some enabling ordinances to make its use more effective and efficient.

“Uno del nesesita kita chekya, amo si debe ba gayod permiti usa aqui na sentro del ciudad este maga full-face helmet, o permiti con maga driver de maga motorsiclo de tapa con di ila maga cara por medio de maga scarp o paño ora de manejada,” Natividad said.

The topnotch councilor also plans to suggest to Climaco’s administration to consider in its next acquisition, much modern closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, “aquel tipo high definition, porcausa que este maga ya compra antes, y establisao ya na diferente maga lugar na pueblo, ni hinde claro el cara del maga hente”.

At the same time, Natividad plans to make more useful, the usage of barangay tanods and members of Barangay Intelligence Network (BIN), to serve as force multipliers in the city’s crime-fighting campaign.

“I am so glad that other law enforcement entities, like Task Force Zamboanga under Col. Andrelino Colina and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), led by its regional director, Supt. Adzar Albani, have unequivocally, expressed their support on my advocacy against criminality”, Natividad said.

Meanwhile, sensing risk in all that he is doing at present, Natividad confirmed having requested from newly-designated city police OIC Sr. Supt Jose Chiquito Malayo, security personnel for protection. — Philip Abuy
