7 killed, 6 hurt as soldiers clash with Maguindanao BIFF gunmen PDF Print E-mail

Seven people were killed, five of them suspected Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), and six others were injured when troopers of the 6th Infantry Division’s 2nd Mechanized Battalion clashed with the renegade Muslim group in Guindulungan, Maguindanao Saturday morning.

Col. Dickon Hermoso, 6th Infantry Division spokesperson, said suspected BIFF members fired upon their KM-450 truck as the vehicle was heading for some administrative matter around 9:15 a.m. towards Barangay Kateman, Guindulungan town.

Two soldiers were hurt in the ensuing firefight.

At this point, the BIFF retreated with the 6th Infantry Division units in hot pursuit.

Around 9:20 a.m., government forces encountered anew 20 suspected BIFF members killing five while the soldiers suffered two casualties and another four injured.

Witnesses reported that the BIFF sustained many casualties in this encounter.

Hermoso said the wounded government troopers are now undergoing treatment at the Camp Siongco Station Hospital in Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

He declined to identify the casualties pending notification of their relatives.

Pursuit operations are ongoing.
