The Police Maritime Unit  12 has intensified its operations against human traffickers in the coastal areas of General Santos City and Sarangani province.

PMU-12 Chief Sr. Supt. Agustin D. Molina disclosed that  human trafficking  operations take place at the country’s backdoor in Tawi-Tawi connecting from Zamboanga City and the backdoor of Glan  municipality , Sarangani province which is near Menado, Indonesia.

“We have joint operations with Police Regional Office 12 ‘s Intelligence Division, the local government unit of Glan and Police  Women Desk. We also conductregular sea patrol  with out police seacraft at the bay of Sarangani Bay and Gen. Santos City,” Molina said.

He added that his command constantly monitors the entry of people in Glan. Most of the human trafficking victims  are from Luzon ,Visayas and some from Mindanao area.

According to him, there are no more commercial vessels making calls at the port of General Santos City from Davao City, Zamboanga City and making trips to Manila, Cebu or  Iloilo.

Direct flights from Gensan to Iloilo City andClark Angeles City are four times a week, while flights to Cebu  City and Manila are daily.

“Gensan port is currently busy with loading and unloading of cargoes from foreign vessels and from vessels coming from Cebu and Manila,” Molina said. — Allen Abastillas
