More illegally-cut lumber flitches were confiscated by men of the Vitali Police Station led by Sr. Insp. Joel Tuttuh and DENR personnel during an operation at Sitio Veronica, Vitali last Tuesday morning.

A police report disclosed that the lawmen swooped down on Sitio Veronica around 10:30 a.m. after receiving an information that unidentified persons were transporting illegally-cut trees in the area.

However, when the police and the DENR men arrived in the area, the suspected illegal loggers were nowhere to be found. Apparently they sensed the arrival of the authorities and managed to escape.

Confiscated were lawaan lumber estimated at 3,135 board feet in different dimensions with a market value of P110,636 and three live carabaos.

The recovered lumber and the carabaos were turned over to the DENR for proper disposition. — Dan Toribio Jr.
