Basilan Gov. Jum Akbar yesterday lauded the troops for neutralizing an Abu Sayyaf bandit leader in the province.

Akbar said the neutralization of the Abu Sayyaf leader last Wednesday is a big blow to the remaining members of the bandit group.

Suhud Tanajalin, one of the remaining Abu Sayyaf leaders in Basilan, was killed in a clash Wednesday morning with the Army’s 32nd Infantry Battalion troops in Barangay Lower Sinangkapan, Tuburan town.

Tanajalin’s presence in Sinangkapan was tipped off by the residents in the area to the troops that resulted to a brief firefight when the soldiers responded to the civilians’ report.
Akbar said the civilians’ support by way of providing information is an indication the government’s campaign against the terrorist group is gaining ground.

“It shows the civilians are fed up of the atrocities committed by the Abu Sayyafs,” Akbar said “they too are being victimized.”

Akbar urged the Special Operations Task Force-Basilan headed by Brig. Gen. Nicanor Dolojan to keep up the tempo of the campaign against the remaining leaders and members of the bandit group.
