FOZYL awards highlight Dia de R.T. Lim PDF Print E-mail

In commemoration of yesterday’s “Dia di Senador Roseller T. Lim,” the city government paid tribute to Five Outstanding Zamboanga Young Leaders (FOZYL) in coordination with the Junior Chamber International Zamboanga in fitting ceremonies last night at the Garden Orchid Hotel, this city.

The awards night was a culmination of the annual “Dia di Roseller T. Lim” in celebration of his birthday (Feb 9), pursuant to City Ordinance 283 authored by Councilor Rudy Lim, the late senator’s nephew.

Mayor Celso Lobregat, under whose administration the observance of “Dia di Roseller” started five years ago, personally led Zamboangueños, particularly the family, relatives and friends of the senator in the Dia celebration.

One of this year’s awardees is Grace Kristine Mabanal Baylon, chairperson of the Student Council Alliance of the Philippines Region IX (SCAP). She’s active in school and youth organizations at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) and AKBAYAN Youth Zamboanga and Pinay Kilos (PINK), a dean’s lister, a certified Zamboangueño.

Another FOZYL awardee is Joseph Van Tecson Bue, majority Floor Leader, 8th National Youth Parliament. Active in school and youth organization, Vice-president, Voice of Mindanao (2010-present); Founder of The Leadership Academy, Mentoring Club and Sibugyanon’s Progressive Advancement for Good Governance. He advocates for smoke-free environment and is presently a host of a local TV weekly program.

Christopher Acapulco Laque is also a recipient of the FOZYL award. He is receiver of various academic recognitions and distinctions, an employee of the City Government of Zamboanga Sector, active in organizations in the field of engineering.

Grace M. Sojor, who holds multiple bachelor’s and master’s degrees, is another FOZYL awardee this year. She is the president of the Council of Deans for ICT (CODICT IX) (2010-2011); active in IT organizations (PSITE IX, JEDI, ZPRS) and headed various IT related projects. Her advocacy is “Share and develop knowledge in the field of ICT.

Another awardee in Mark Conrad Rivero Ravanzo, assistant country leader, Children of the Earth – Philippines; author and founder of BatangIskolar Program: I am M.A.D. (Making A Difference) and I-YOU-DA: I,m created to paint smiles. He is also a recipient of various awards like T.A.Y.O 7 Mindanao Finalist: Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations; I-YOU-DA: I’m created to paint smiles, U.N. Assoc. of the Philippines Outstanding Youth Leader Award: Community Service Category and 2009 Young Peace Weaver Award.

A great filibuster, a congressman and Court of Appeals justice, Senator Lim was one of the most outstanding leaders of his time and he contributed enormously to the development not only of the city but of the country as well.

The commemoration of the 5th Dia de Roseller Lim yesterday commenced with a mass at the St. Joseph Church at 8am followed by the wreath laying activity at the late senator’s monument erected at the rotunda of R.T. Lim boulevard.

The Lim family was represented by Councilor Lim, former Vice Mayor Roberto Lim and wife and former National Bureau of Investigation regional director Gil Lim and wife. — Vic Larato
