GUN VIOLENCE LATEST VICTIMS: Trader, relative shot dead by holduppers PDF Print E-mail

Gun violence continues in Zamboanga City with a rice businesswoman and her relative killed and their companion wounded in holdup-slay in San Jose Gusu Friday night.

One of two suspects was arrested during a hot pursuit operation in Southcom Village, Calarian less than three hours after the incident.

Police identified the fatalities as Evelyn Cuento y Incarnado, 34, and Charlito Elumbaring y Cuento, 24.  Wounded was Marjun  Vesorio y Cuento, 20.

The victims sustained multiple bullet wounds in the body and were rushed to the hospital, where Evelyn and Charlito were declared dead on arrival.

A police report disclosed that the Evelyn, Charlito and Marjun were riding on Honda TMX motorcycle at Armor Village, San Jose Gusu where two men aboard a Honda XRM motorcycle chased them and tried to grab Evelyn’s  bag around 7:55 p.m. Evelyn put fight which prompted one of the holduppers to shoot them.

When the TMX motorcycle crashed and the victims fell on the ground, the gunmen continued firing at them. Then the holduppers seized Evelyn’s shoulder bag containing P5,000 in cash, a cell phone and other valuables.

The holduppers sped away after the incident while policemen under OIC-City Police Director Sr. Supt. Jose Chiquito Malayo led by Sr. Insp. Arlan Delumpines scrambled on hot pursuit operations.

Around 11 o’clock of the same night, Delumpines and his men arrested Malali Dimarunsing, 27, married, in Southcom Village after Vesorio positively identified him as one of the two gunmen in the holdup.

Dimarunsing was detained at the central police station while operations continued for the possible arrest of his cohort. – Dan Toribio Jr.
