The City Council is now accepting applications for accreditation of all non-government organizations (NGOs) and people’s organizations (POs) in preparation for the convening of special bodies like the City Development Council (CDC).

Councilor Percival Ramos, chairman of the Council committee on Urban Poor, NGOs and POs said NGOs and POs are mandated to get accreditation from the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) as this will give every organization the opportunity to be represented in special bodies to be created by the City Government.

Ramos said Mayor Beng Climaco, per mandate from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), is set to convene the Local Development Council soon and the representation from the NGOs and POs is a must. “NGOs and POs are mandated to participate in the plans and programs of the LGU through the LDC.”

The convening of the LDC will have to come soon, as this is a prerequisite in the preparation of next year’s executive budget.

The notice of accreditation has been sent to all qualified organizations, according to Ramos. Basic requirement in the accreditation is the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registration of the concerned organizations.

“We appeal to all NGO’s and PO’s to visit the City Council and accredit your organization so you can participate in the planning of the local government”, Ramos said.

The councilor expects the accreditation of 80 to 100 organizations. As of last week, a little over 40 have complied.

Under the procedure, all accredited NGOs and POs will elect a represent who will sit down in the LDC and other specially created bodies.
