Government forces arrested a suspected member of the Abu Sayyaf Group along Villalobos Street, this city yesterday morning.

Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang identified the suspect as Abu Walid. He was nabbed by military operatives who were backed up by policemen around 10:30 a.m.

Walid had standing warrants of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention for his participation in the Golden Harvest kidnapping with criminal case numbers 3432, 3551, 3552, 3566, 3567, 3569 and 3570.

The warrant of arrest was issued by Judge Leo Jay Principe, presiding judge of 9th Judicial Region branch 1, Basilan dated January 28, 2008.

He was also wanted for criminal case numbers for the same offense, 3537-1129, 3608-1164, 3611-1165 and 3674-1187 for his participation in the Dr. Torres kidnapping. The warrant was issued by Judge Danilo Bucoy of the 9th Judicial Region, branch 2, dated September 4, 2002.

Walid was placed under tactical interrogation pending his turnover to the court. — Dan Toribio Jr.
