Mayor Beng Climaco has called on the local police to strictly enforce the laws and ordinances without fear or favor in the city of Zamboanga even as she urged them to prepare an operational plan and conduct daily briefings on matters relating to the security plan.
Mayor Climaco sounded the call during her message to the 70 police officers attended the People’s Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) seminar yesterday morning at Alavar’s Restaurant in Tetuan, this city.
In her message, the lady chief executive urged the police to immediately respond to any incidents and provide assistance to the people. “Undertake pro-active measures within your respective areas of responsibility,” she told the law enforcers.
She also reiterated her earlier directive to the police to conduct daily patrols, random and permanent checkpoints in strategic areas, especially during day and night. She also stressed the importance of inspection of riding-in-tandem motorists in accordance with law and police operational procedures.
Climaco likewise directed the police to strengthen their intelligence networks with the end in view of preventing crimes.
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” she even as she also pointed out the need to increase police visibility and ensure that they extend kindness and utmost courtesy to the public whether they be on or off duty.
Mayor Beng warned the police, however, that all these efforts at keeping the city safe for everybody will go to naught if the police officer themselves do not have discipline within them and worst, if there are erring members within the organization.
“Instill discipline to your units and undertake immediate appropriate disciplinary measures against erring subordinates,” she ordered, and for the police to undertake immediate measures for the barangay and the community under their AOR to be pro-actively involved in ensuring peace and order.
What made the seminar lively and inter-active was when Beng, the typical teacher in her, made the police officers answer her impromptu questions on police and security matters.
And to enliven the seminar mood, she turned the event into a videoke session where the law enforces enjoyed singing to selected videoke selections, to the delight of everybody present. — Vic Larato
