District 1 Congressman Celso Lobregat is set to meet today with officials from the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (ZAMCELCO) to discuss the current situation of the facility in his bid to bring the same to the attention of the House of Representatives.

Lobregat was appointed vice chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations and designated to look into issues concerning the energy cluster. Included in the cluster are the Department of Energy (DOE), National Electrification Administration (NEA), Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (PSALM), National Transmission Corporation (TRANSCO), National Power Corporation (NPC) and Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) among others.

Davao City Representative Isidro Ungab, who chairs the House Committee on Appropriations assigned Lobregat to look after the energy sector considering that it is a very important sector. The Davao solon also believes that a Mindanaoan should take charge of such a vital sector.

Lobregat said the meeting with Zamcelco this afternoon is purposely to get a briefing on the actual situation of the cooperative including the areas needed for inclusion in the electrification program among others.

After the briefing, he stressed, he can bring up the issues and concerns in Congress.

Expected to attend the meeting are the members of the board and the administration officials of Zamcelco. — Rey Carbonel
