A 14-year-old boy and his younger sister were buried alive after their house was covered with soil and rocks during a landslide in Barangay Limpapa yesterday morning.

Sr. Insp. Chester Natividad, Labuan Police Station chief, disclosed that the landslide took place at Sitio Cumati, Limpapa around 7:30 a.m.

Natividad identified the fatalities as Agustin Kaluuyan y Ramos and his sister Ayen Kaluuyan y Ramos, 6.

Police learned that aside from the house of the Kaluuyan family, two others were also covered by soil and rocks but the occupants were quick to get out before the disaster struck.

It was learned that the parents of the fatalities were not around during the disaster. Agustin and Ayen failed to extricate themselves out of the house when mounts of soil and rocks rolled down from up the hill and landed on their home.

The bodies of the two children were retrieved hours later but they were declared dead by rescuers.

Natividad said the bodies of the two children bore injuries caused by the volume of soil and rocks.

The landslide came amid the incessant rains which softened the soil foundation in the high ground.

The two bodies were brought to a funeral parlor for post mortem examination. – Dan Toribio Jr.
