The Bureau of Fire Protection Regional Office plans to deploy a novel volunteer fire brigade in the city’s barangays.

Fire Regional Director Supt. Mario Timonera, in a Cuentas Claras episode revealed to Rep. Erbie A. Fabian the idea of the volunteer fire brigade to tap housewives, house helpers and members of households who stay at home to form the core of the fire volunteers.

This will be appropriately called, the Pink Fire Brigade.
Supt.Timonera said the logic behind the novel scheme is that these are the people who are present in the neighborhood and that they normally are the first to respond in fire incidents in the locality.
Timonera said this could augment a vastly undermanned fire fighting corps deployed in the different parts of the city.

Fire incidents normally escalate during summer, the onset of the hot and dry season.
Timonera hopes to pilot the project in Zamboanga city hopefully before the summer season starts.
The BFP will open talks with barangay officials on the plan soon.
