Chong Hua student reaps 3 gold medals in 3 HK math tilts PDF Print E-mail

Multi-awarded Xavier Jefferson Ray M. Go of Zamboanga Chong Hua High School lived up the expectation again winning three gold medals in three separate mathematics competition held last July 25-27 in Hong Kong.

The Grade VII section sunwu student of the institution vied for top honors in the Environmental Competition, King of Math Competition and the Asia Math Olympiad 2013 in which he emerged victorious.

He was proclaimed champion in the environmental competition and awarded gold medal each in the two other competitions. Thirteen other Filipino students also claimed top honors during the three day academic affair.

The bespectacled “Xavier” as fondly called by classmates and friends is the son of businessman and civic leader Raymond C. Go. He was accompanied during his trip to the former British colony by his mother Marivic (nee Mendoza).

Close to 1,000 students from six countries including 263 from the Philippines saw action in the contests held under the auspices of the Gifted Students Association of Hong Kong.

Overall the 263 contestants from the Philippines tallied 66 gold, 157 silver and 178 bronze or a total 401 medal haul, the most during the affair. Followed by Malaysia with 163, Hong Kong 85, China 68, Macao 47 and Indonesia 2.

The Philippine delegation was headed by Dr. Archieval Rodriguez of the Mathematics Development Academy of the Philippines (MDAP) together with Ms. Myrna Agtarap, Manuel Kotah and DOST representative Rafael Olivar.

Dr. Simon L. Chuan, president of the Mathematics Teachers Guild or MTG Philippines was review consultant and facilitator together with coaches Samuel Gayangos (review coordinator) and Joey Decimo. — LE
