Mayor Beng Climaco underscored the importance of education as she called on teachers and parents to support their children in their learning journey during the St. Dominic feast day celebrations at the Escuela Dominicana Friday, August 9.

Recounting her experiences as a former student, the Mayor encouraged parents to be an active part in their children’s education.

“Do your very best to take care of your children,” said Climaco. “They may be your grandchild, your daughter or son, but while they are starting in the very formative years, let us give them our support.”

In her message, Climaco likewise lauded the generosity of the sponsors, donors, benefactors and members of the parish which allowed many improvements to be made in the school.

She also recognized the efforts of the Dominican Order to impart knowledge and learning in the City.

“Their main gift to Zamboanga City is basically education – for us to be able to learn,” said Climaco, an educator and an advocate for children herself. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
