Gun violence is unstoppable in Zamboanga City.

Daring gunmen shot and wounded the security escort of a Sulu mayor in broad daylight at crowded Barcelona Street downtown Zamboanga yesterday afternoon.

Iddar Barahama y Nawadie, 37, a resident of Arena Blanco, sustained a bullet wound in the back of the body. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared out of danger.

Initial investigation disclosed that Barahama was about to ride his Honda XRM motorcycle parked along with dozens other motorcycles outside Glenn’s Marketing when two men appeared and one of the shot him at close range.

The gunman along with his companion boarded a gray-black Honda Wave motorcycle that sped north.

Although wounded, Barahama managed to seek assistance from a parking boy, who facilitated the response of an emergency team that rushed him to the hospital.

Policemen chased the assailants and hot pursuit operation was ongoing as of press time.

Recovered at the crime scene were a spent shell of .45 cal. pistol.

Police were looking into revenge as the motive behind the shooting. Barahama was tagged as suspect in the gunslaying of Totoh Abdullar in Cawit three months ago.

Barahama was able to identify his assailant as a certain Gadjer Sabtari. – Dan Toribio Jr.
