Zamboanga City is an MVP – at least, when it comes to paying its tax dues.

The City was recognized as one of the Most Valuable Partners of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) during the BIR’s 109th Anniversary celebrations Wednesday, August 7 at the Astoria Plaza.

The City was chosen by revenue officers for its exemplary performance as a taxpayer – a performance which assisted the Revenue Region 15 (Zamboanga City)to exceed its target collection goal for Tax Year 2012 by 2.5%.

“In terms of compliance, like filing, nakaka-comply talaga siya,” said Merlyn D.V. Vicente, Revenue District Officer for Revenue District 93A, regarding the City’s tax performance.

“We also checked the amount of remittance, and so far, malaki ang contribution ng Zamboanga. We are very much grateful about that,” she said, adding that they hope for more City-initiated projects to be implemented as these will mean more taxes to be collected and remitted.

Accepting the commendation for the City Government was Mayor Beng Climaco who credited the City’s performance to the concerted efforts of the City’s finance team. — Jasmine Mohammadsali
