An army soldier surrendered to his commanding officer in Basilan a day after he shot and killed a security escort of a Sulu mayor at Barcelona St., this city last Monday.

Cpl. Gajer Sattar submitted himself to his superior at  the headquarters of the 18th Infantry Battalion at Sitio  Camalig, Barangay Bohe Pahu, Unkaya Pukan, Basilan last Tuesday morning.

Sattar admitted he shot and killed Idar Barahama y Nawadie last Monday afternoon along Barcelona St.  He was placed under the custody of his 18thIB pending his turnover to the Zamboanga City Police Office for the filing of charges in court.

Barahama was about to board his motorcycle parked at Barcelona St. when Sattar appeared and shot him in the back.

Sattar escaped after the shooting and eluded arrest by policemen who chased him.

Barahama was still in stable condition when he was rushed to the hospital, but he expired while undergoing treatment.

Police said that revenge was the motive behind the killing as Barahama was also tagged in another fatal gunslay in Cawit months ago. – Dan Toribio Jr.
