An assistant city prosecutor and a lawyer of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines were arrested during an entrapment operation by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at the Zamboanga City Hall of Justice at noon yesterday.

Assistant City Prosecutor Roselyn Mamon Murillo and Atty. Pherham Surian Saiddi were nabbed by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation, Presidential Anti-organized Crime Commission and policemen at Room 105 at the Hall of Justice.

DZT gathered that the entrapment operation was carried out after a policeman who is one of the witnesses in the case against Margani Samla alias Binladen (arrested) and PO2 Pon Mohammad Mansul (at large) who were behind the notorious drug syndicate in Recodo.

A policeman, who is a witness in the case, said in an affidavit-complaint that he was coerced by Murillo not to stand witness against Samla and Mansul who are facing charges of violation of Republic Act 9165, murder and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

It was learned that Murillo and Saiddi were arrested after they allegedly handed P200,000 to the witness-policeman as alleged bribe for the latter not to stand witness in the case.

The two lawyers are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 3019 and graft and corruption case. They were reportedly brought to Manila to be presented to Justice Secretary Leila De Lima.

Samla alias Binladen went into hiding for several months after his drug den and “shabu tiangge” was raided and dismantled by policemen last year. However Samla was captured in Basilan early this year and is now detained atthe city jail.

It was learned that Atty. Saiddi is Samla’s lawyer in the criminal case filed against him.– Dan Toribio Jr.
