A very good project like Conditional Cash Transfer or Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P’s) deserves to continue even after the term of current President Benigno S. Aquino III ends by 2016.

This was stressed by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon J. Soliman Friday in a press briefing at La Breza Hotel in Quezon.

Soliman is hoping the next administration will continue to implement the program of Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) or Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Soliman said the project has been helping the poor to attain self-sufficiency level.

“The CCT or 4P’s is indeed very effective tool in poverty-alleviation effort and we are confident that the next administration will see its essence in uplifting the life conditions of poor and near-poor Filipino families,” said Soliman.

According to Soliman, 4Ps is a project that started under then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s administration which the current administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III adopted and boosted.

“It is because the project was seen by President Aquino’s administration as a project that is benefiting a lot of marginalized sector in the countryside that will ensure inclusive economic growth,” Soliman said.

“The program serves as a tool for poor and even near-poor to prevent from vulnerability or sliding further into deeper poverty,” explained Soliman.

She said through the health and cash grants, poor families receive assistance that helps their children to be healthy and attend school.

“If the children finished their high school and gets diploma they will most likely land more decent jobs that will give them higher income,” she said.

She added that such will guarantee to break the inter-generational cycle of poverty.

“By assuring that they are going to school, which is one of the conditions under the program, they will not be like their poor parents who unfortunately did not get a high school diploma that became reasons they did not get much opportunity to escape from poverty and remained poor,” she explained.

She added that the program aims to help the children to attain self-sufficiency level in the future as productive members of the society so that their families will not continue to slide into threshold of poverty but be a part of inclusive economic growth goal of the government.

She added that they are also currently working out to include 18-year olds in the 4Ps to ensure that they will finish high school and get a higher paying job.
