Conmen or budol-budol in local lingo struck in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte victimizing a 76-year-old woman.

A police report identified the victim as Macrina Hamoy, a resident of Barangay Potol, Dapitan City.

Initial investigation disclosed that Hamoy was walking along Leonor Rivera Street, Dapitan City, around 11:45 in the morning of August 16 when she was befriended by an unidentified man who pretended to be a businessman. He asked her if where he can find a passenger van for a ride.

Moments later, another unidentified man driving a red van arrived and invited Hamoy and the man to have a ride.

At first Hamoy refused to get aboard but she was persuaded by the van driver to join them going to Barangay Polo, Dapitan City.

While inside the van, the man whom Hamoy first met told her he has money inside the bag amounting to P 500,000.

While their conversation continued, the man handed the bag to Hamoy for reason he has another place to go and he will get the bag later at the victim’s house.

Then conmen convinced the victim to put together inside the same bag her necklace worth P10, 000, wedding ring worth P5, 000, a pair of earrings worth P3,000 and P500 in cash as assurance that the bag will not be lost, which Hamoy agreed.

When they arrived at Barangay Polo, Hamoy alighted from the van and immediately went home.

When Hamoy arrived home she discovered the bag handed to her by the man contained folded Grade 1 pad paper and the necklace, wedding ring; earrings and P500 were missing.

Shocked and angry, Hamoy reported the incident to the police.
