Another suspected illegal rice shipment was intercepted by authorities at the local wharf last Saturday night.

The operation was carried out by men of the City Police Office led by Sr. Insp. Elmer Solon around 9 p.m.

Solon and his men rushed to the port area after receiving a report that two vessels had just arrived and were carrying suspected smuggled sacks of rice.

When Solon and his men arrived at the wharf, they spotted M/L Ocean Master owned by Jurie Kuyong of Pangutaran, Sulu and M/L Lady Aisa II owned by Suaib Sabtal of Isabela City loaded with sacks of rice.

It was learned that the two vessels were carrying a total of 3,000 sacks of rice of 25 kilograms each.

Police said that no one from the among the vessel crew could present papers legalizing the shipment of the rice.

After proper inventory, the confiscated sacks of rice were turned over to the Bureau of Customs.

The Coast Guard Zamboanga City District Office also found some deficiencies in the two boats that prompted them to put both under their custody. — Dan Toribio Jr.
