More than 300 mostly indigent residents of Barangay San Roque benefited from the free medical, dental and other social services of the “Dia del Alcalde Beng Climaco” yesterday morning.
As early as 8 a.m., people from all ages started to converge at San Roque Barangay Hall compound where they queued for the services they wanted to avail of, foremost of which were the free medical consultations, medicines and dental services by the City Health Office personnel.
Also offered was free birth registration by the City Civil Registrar, anti-rabies vaccination by the City Veterinarian, agriculture and fishery services by the City Agriculturist Office, and hair cutting, pedicure and manicure training by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
San Roque is the third barangay so far to have benefitted from the “Dia del Alcalde” since the program was launched on August 7 in Barangay Tumaga. The second “Dia del Alcalde” was held August 13.
Mayor Climaco explained the program is being conducted in lieu of the traditional Mayor’s Night during barangay fiesta celebrations. It features the health and social services component of her administration’s priority programs on Security, Health and Education (SHE).
The lady chief executive said the “Dia del Alcalde” will go to all barangays of the city as they celebrate the feast of their patron saint. It expects to serve as many barangay residents as possible rather than holding the Mayor’s Night activity, which is purely a night of entertainment and giveaways.
“To the people of Zamboanga, expect the ‘Dia del Alcalde’ in your barangay during your fiesta celebration,” she said. — Vic Larato
