Seventeen beneficiaries coming from various barangays were the latest batch to receive cash assistance from the city government’s Self-Employment Assistance (SEA) program.

Mayor Beng Climaco Tuesday afternoon distributed checks ranging from P3,000 to P5,000 per beneficiary to encourage them to engage in entrepreneurial endeavors and sustain small business ventures. The grant totaled to P67,000.00.

According to CSWDO Welfare Division Chief Darick Fabian, the beneficiaries were identified, screened and monitored by the field office to ensure feasibility of their desired business venture.

-time beneficiaries can avail of a P3,000 interest- and collateral-free loan from the city government which they must repay within 10-12 months before they can re-apply for an additional loan of P5,000 payable in the same period.

Yesterday’s beneficiaries intend to use the cash assistance to engage in buy-and-sell of vegetables, rice and charcoal and other income-generating projects.

The payments of the loan sustains the city’s SEA program because they are subsequently used as revolving funds to grant loans to other qualified beneficiaries. — Claudine Uniana
