An 18-year-old died, while his backrider, a 13-year-old boy, was injured after the motorcycle they were riding crashed onto a mahogany tree in Tumaga last Tuesday night.

Dead was Ryan Macopa y Fernandez, single, and injured was Mayrick Peho y Martinez, 13 — both residents of Urban Poor, Tumaga.

A police report disclosed that Macopa was driving a Honda XRM motorcycle with Peho as backrider travelling north direction when the accident took place around 11:35 p.m.

Police said that Macopa lost control of the motorcycle’s steering bar sending it crashing onto a mahogany tree along the Tumaga-Luyahan road.

Macopa and Peho were thrown off the motorcycle due to the strong impact. Their bodies hit hard objects in the area.

Helpful residents rushed them to the Western Mindanao Medical Center where Macopa was declared dead on arrival.

Peho was confined for further treatment.

The motorcycle was impounded at the police station as investigation was still in progress. – Dan Toribio Jr.
