GPH, MILF end talks in KL PDF Print E-mail

The 39th round of Exploratory Talks between the negotiating panels of the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 22-25, 2013 ended yesterday with the parties achieving substantial progress in the discussions towards finalizing the Annexes on Power-sharing and Normalization to the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro.

A joint statment of the GPH andMILf said that during the four-day meeting, the parties worked towards the resolution of some of the most crucial issues.

“Despite the sensitivity of these issues, the Parties remain committed to the problem-solving approach in order to reach consensus. In the spirit of partnership and mutual understanding, they are confident that an agreement will be reached soon. They agreed to meet again in September 2013, the statement said.

It said that the discussed the composition of the Independent Commission on Policing and the possibility of convening it during the next meeting.

Both parties  welcomed the attendance of observers from the House of Representatives, the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC), and civil society. “This meeting provided an opportunity for an informal discussion between the members of Congress and the BTC,” the statement said.
