A carnapped Mitsubishi Montero SUV was recovered by Highway Patrol Group 9 operatives around 4 p.m.last Monday.

HPG-9 described the recovered Mitsubishi Montero as Sedona Red in color with engine number 4D56UCDF6585 and Chassis number MMBGNKG0CF015856 and using a plate number  JAJ 02 which is assigned to another motorvehicle.

Before it was recovered, Supt. Severino B. Agustin, HPG-9 chief, had directed Insp. Mervin Claret and other operatives to conduct an operation against carnapped vehicles, on no plate, no travel policy and on motorcyclists not wearing helmets.

During the operation,  the Montero was spotted and flagged down along La Purisima St. because the man driving it was not wearing a seatbelt.

When the HPG-9 operatives asked the driver about the registration and official receipt of the SUV, his reply was conflicting which prompted the lawmen to check with the Land Transportation  Office Hotline Text 2600, where it was revealed that the assigned plate number for the SUV is TQP 475 and the Montero wass using JAJ 02.

Case investigator SPO1 Wilfredo P. Ator also checked with the Motor Vehicle Information Management System that linked all HPG units nationwide and found out that the red Montero is in the list of alarmed/stolen motorvehicles. It was seized at gunpoint and intimidation by unidentified persons from the registered owner on March 24,2013 in Pasay City. The owner’s name has been withheld so that follow-up investigation will not be jeopardized.

Agustin commended Claret, Ator and the other HPG-9 men for a job well done. He directed them to impound the Montero and prepare charges against the possessor. — Allen Abastillas
